We currently have a vacancy for an Ophthalmic Specialist Practitioner at our main hospital site in Southport. As specialists in eye-care we offer services in refractive surgery, laser eye surgery, Cataract, Intravitreal injections, Glaucoma, Ocular plastics, Orthoptics, Community Ophthalmology and General Ophthalmology.

This post presents an exciting opportunity for an experienced Registered Nurse, Optometrist, or Orthoptist to join our team. The successful candidate will be part of a multidisciplinary team delivering care to patients. This will involve clinical assessment, treatment and evaluation of the patients’ condition. The candidate must have experience within Ophthalmology.

Essential/ Desirable Requirements

  • Registered nurse (appropriate to branch) / Optometrist / Orthoptist
  • Current appropriate professional body registration e.g., NMC, GOC
  • Degree / Masters level study, or equivalent specialist study / experience
  • Extensive post registration experience within Ophthalmology is essential
  • Good IT skills
  • Audit / research experience
  • Evidence of on-going continuous professional development
  • Evidence of good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and across disciplines as a member of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Effective organisational and time management skills
  • ILS/ALS is desirable or be prepared to work towards gaining ALS certification.
  • The candidate must have their own car with a full UK driving License

Duties of the post include:

  • Performing diagnostic assessments (including Biometry/Visual fields/ OCT) and ophthalmic procedures as part of the patient pathway
  • Promoting a team approach to patient care, including medical staff and staff allied to patient care, to ensure a high standard is maintained
  • Consent where appropriate
  • Provide ILS/ ALS cover to theatre for all aspects of ophthalmic surgeries including Fundus Fluorescein Angiograms
  • Pre-operative and Post-operative assessment
  • Outreach clinics in the community
  • Assist Ophthalmologists to perform procedures within the clinic and theatre when required
  • Involvement in developing policies and protocols
  • Develop and expand own clinical practice to improve care and treatment
  • Member of the clinical on-call team on a rota basis
  • Promote efficient use of clinic time
  • Virtual clinics experience in Glaucoma or AMD follow-ups is desirable, although full training will be provided

This position is full-time but would consider part-time

This is an exciting opportunity for a Healthcare Assistant/Ophthalmic Assistant to join iSIGHT Clinic.

ISIGHT Clinic has been providing excellence in eye care for 25 years. As specialists in eye care we offer services in Cataracts, Macular Degeneration, Corneal surgery, laser eye surgery, Glaucoma, Ocular plastics, Squints and General Ophthalmology.

The chosen candidate will have a passion for Ophthalmology and delivering excellent patient services to ensure the highest level of care is given to our patients, their relatives and carers. Working alongside the clinical team you will be involved with Working in the clinic setting and operating theatre, duties will include:

  • The day to day running of clinics, on site and in the community
  • Carrying our relevant diagnostic tests.
  • Assist in the running of pre and post-operative clinics including diagnostic support
  • Prepare and set up clinic and treatment rooms for clinical treatments and minor ops ensuring the rooms and equipment are ready for use.
  • Support theatre team as runner/ patient escort
  • To work in the decontamination unit when required

This is a permanent position based at our main hospital in Southport, Merseyside, and our outreach clinics in West Lancashire. Driving is essential for this post.
