Our highly qualified team includes some of the most talented and respected ophthalmic surgeons in the UK today, all of whom are on the specialist register of the GMC.
Each of our consultants conforms to stringent CQC guidelines and are based locally. Each surgeon has their own sub-specialist field, meaning that we can offer you a choice of consultant ophthalmologists based upon your particular condition. They are supported by a team of specialist ophthalmic nurses.

Carl Groenewald - FCS (Ophth) MMed FRCOphth
Medical Director, Consultant Ophthalmic and vitreoretinal surgeon.

Mr Groenewald has been Medical Director at iSIGHT since 2012. His special interests include the surgical treatment of retinal disorders , AMD (Age related macular degeneration), Vascular tumours and retinal oedema.

He is a Consultant Ophthalmologist at St Pauls Eye Unit , Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
Carmel Noonan - FRCSI FRCOphth
Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon

Miss Carmel Noonan has worked at iSIGHT since 2010 and provides a comprehensive general ophthalmology service with special interest in strabismus for both adults and children. In addition to supporting the orthoptic services, she provides treatments including prisms, botulinum toxin and cataract surgery. Ms Noonan is a Consultant Ophthalmologist at Aintree University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
Vincent Dubois MBBS FRCOphth
Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon

Mr Dubois has special interest in Glaucoma and Cataract surgery. He offers a range of laser and surgical procedures for glaucoma and a range of procedures for refractive and cataract patients including cataract surgery and refractive lens exchange. Special interests include bilateral cataract surgery, multifocal lens implant, micro-invasive and non penetrating glaucoma surgery.

He is a Consultant Ophthalmologist and Glaucoma lead at Aintree University Hospitals NHS foundation trust.
Austin McCormick MBChB FRCOphth
Consultant Ophthalmic and Oculoplastic Surgeon

Mr McCormick specialises in surgical and non surgical oculofacial rejuvenation in addition to reconstructive eyelid surgery, lacrimal surgery for watery eyes, thyroid eye disease surgery, orbital and cataract surgery. He is a Consultant Ophthalmologist at Aintree University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

Professional profile

Mr Khalil is a full time Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon at Blackpool Victoria Hospital where he is Medical Retina Lead and providing one of the largest Wet AMD service in Northwest of England. He is also treating DMO (diabetic Macular Oedema), Macular Oedema secondary to Retinal Vein Occlusions Central Serous retinopathy (CSCR). He provides treatment with Lucentis, Eye Lea (aflibercept), Ozurdex (Dexamethasone Implant), Jetria (Ocriplasmin). He also performs Photodynamic therapy (PDT) in selected cases of Medical Retina diseases.

He also performs Small Incision Cataract surgery (Phakoemulsification and intraocular lens Implants) lists both in Blackpool Victoria Hospital and Spire Fylde Coast Hospital.

Mr Khalil practices comprehensive General Ophthalmology where he treats Glaucoma, Cataract, Ocular trauma, Corneal and Conjunctival, neurological diseases and uveitis. He is very keen to perform lid surgery including blepharoplasty.

He is an examiner of Fellowship Examination of Royal College of Ophthalmologist for the past four years. He graduated from University of The Punjab, Pakistan and started his ophthalmology training in Stirling and Falkirk Royal Infirmary and worked on senior posts in Ysbyty Gwynedd Bangor and Southport and Ormskirk NHS Hospitals. He completed his Medical Retina Fellowship at Aintree University Hospital, Liverpool.

Personal profile

Mr Khalil wanted to be an Eye Surgeon as a child when his father suddenly lost his sight and that gives him tremendous empathy for every patient that he sees.

He has worked in Scotland, North Wales and England and got FRCS degree from Royal College of Surgeons of Ireland and therefore has the flexibility, adaptability and ability to mix well with all the nationalities.

He speaks English, Urdu and Punjabi fluently. Mr Khalil likes hockey, cricket, boxing and likes cycling, long walks and playing chess. He relaxes by listening to Indian and western music and watching movies with his family.

Mr Chitkara has specialist interest in cataract, cornea and refractive eye surgery. He is currently employed as a Consultant Ophthalmologist Surgeon at St Helen’s and Knowsley NHS Trust.
Wayne Crewe-Brown MB chB M.MED (Ophthalmology), Certificate in Laser Eye Surgery
Mr Crewe-Brown is a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon specialising in Cataract and Refractive Surgery and contracting to various clinics throughout the United Kingdom. Mr Crewe-Brown provides a wealth of experience performing almost 40,000 laser vision correction procedures (LASIK/LASEK/PRK); having been active in the laser eye surgery field for the past 20 years, being proficient in the use of all the major excimer laser platforms.
Hilary Phillips BSc Hon MBBS MRCOphth
Mrs Phillips specialised in high volume cataract surgery and also worked as a Corneal specialist at Wolverhampton Eye Informary for 5 years.
Jayne Court
Jayne Smith joined iSIGHT in July 2013.

Jayne graduated from the University of Liverpool in 2008 and currently works as an advance Orthoptist at Aintree Hospitals where she works with the specialist adult ocular motility clinics which include thyroid eye disease, neuro-ophthalmology and maxilla-facial/trauma. Jayne provides orthoptic assessments for both children and adults. Jayne also assesses children with Specific Learning Difficulties the aim of this service is to diagnose and treat visual problems which interfere with a child’s education.
Eileen Jones
Eileen, as one of the first members of our Clinical Staff, joined the iSight team as a nurse in 2005. During the last 16 years, Eileen has developed her skills as a Clinical Nurse Specialist and provides valuable support for Consultants and patients alike.

She is experienced in ophthalmic diagnostic testing, emergency eye-care, pre- and post-operative assessment for cataract and refractive procedures and, most recently, Eileen has developed a specialist interest in glaucoma.
